Dear friends and supporters,
Like over 45,000 other nonprofits, the Museum of Life and Science utilizes Blackbaud software to support our marketing and fundraising efforts. Blackbaud has informed us that our constituent database was part of a larger data breach impacting hundreds of museums, universities, social service organizations, and other nonprofits locally and around the globe. During this data breach, it is possible that some information including names, phone numbers, email addresses, and birthdays of some of the Museum’s current and past supporters and visitors may have been accessed.
The Museum of Life and Science takes data security and the proper use of your information very seriously. Rest assured that the Museum of Life and Science does not capture or in any manner store sensitive information including bank account or social security numbers; other information such as credit card numbers or passwords is encrypted for your safety.
According to Blackbaud, we have no reason to believe that any data potentially accessed during this breach was or will be misused or otherwise disseminated. We are informing our community out of an abundance of caution and based on our respect for the trust that you place in us.
You can read more about Blackbaud's data breach in their statement at blackbaud.com/securityincident or call Blackbaud customer service at 800-468-8996. As always, should you notice any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft, please notify the proper authorities immediately.
We remain deeply grateful to you for your commitment to our work and apologize for any inconvenience that this incident may have caused you. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 919.220.5429, x 317.
