The lemurs on a chilly morning

The day before, the sun was shining and the air was warm. It’s a different story today as it’s overcast, cool, and threatening rain. This day, the lemurs on exhibit in Explore the Wild have “access” which means their exterior door is open and they may stay inside or go outside at their will. It’s up to them to decide.

As it is, they’re all outside sitting on warm, heated rocks and most are snuggled up to other warm furry lemur bodies.

The enclosure.

The conspiracy.

You’ll notice all hands and feet are spread out flat on the rocks except Dan who seems to be grooming Misa. Or is he warming his hands in Misa’s fur?

Maky and Oliver (looking away).

Something has caught the attention of Dan and Henri as Misa stares at me.

I don’t need to tell you much about lemurs, you already know they’re fun to watch, have been featured in animated movies, and are from Madagascar. The ones pictured here (you probably already know this too) are ring-tailed lemurs and are the most commonly featured lemurs in zoos. They’re also one of the most, if not the most, terrestrial of the lemurs, one of the reasons they’re well represented in zoos.

The rest of this week, and for the foreseeable future, the weather should be warm. Stop by and enjoy the view. As I said, they’re always fun to watch.

By the way, each lemur has a different colored zip tie attached to its collar. Consult the signage at the front of the viewing area to help identify the individual lemurs.

Who’s who.
