    Jan 30–Feb 4 — Floating and Sinking
    Explore how objects float or sink. Use your best engineering skills to tackle the problem of buoyancy.

    Feb 6–Feb 11 — Surface Tension
    Break into this week’s lab that is all about surface tension! Discover how some animals can walk across water, and test to see if you can help water defy gravity.

    Feb 13–Feb 18 — Glowing Oceans
    Dive into a week of ocean experiments in The Lab! Play and learn with the glowing creatures of the deep sea.

    Feb 20–Feb 25 — Ocean Acidification — Scientist Saturday
    Join us as we explore how Earth’s atmosphere affects the ocean and its creatures.

    • On Saturday we will have scientists from Duke join us to facilitate and talk to guests about their research in Oceanography.

    Join us for daily butterfly releases into the Magic Wings Butterfly House conservatory and meet our Lepidopterist, a scientist who studies butterflies. You'll also enjoy an up-close look as newly emerged butterflies are released into the conservatory daily.

    Butterfly Releases occur daily at 11am and 3pm.

    This program starts promptly at 11:00 am and 3:00pm!

    See a real-time demonstration of the the difference a seatbelt and booster seat make for passenger safety. Watch the effects of a car crash on a dummy in a simulated car interior then view the impact in more detail at our slow motion station. Crash test demonstrations are Tuesday - Saturday, 11:30am and 2:30pm

    Join us for an elegant evening of fine wine as we examine the science behind your favorite vintages and varieties. We’ve invited local wine sellers, cheese makers and chocolatiers to create this special experience for our science loving wine connoisseurs. Researchers will be on hand to reveal how soil and sun affect color and flavor. Local vendors will hand out samples of cheese and chocolate to perfectly compliment your favorite Cabernet or Chardonnay. Whether you like your wine oaked, opulent, buttery, or bright, this event is sure to tickle your taste buds.

    VIP Wine & Cheese with Wine Authorities Craig Heffley:

    Join Wine Authorities founder Craig Heffley for an exclusive wine workshop. Session attendees will come away with new wine flavor insights, gleaned from one of the Triangle’s greatest wine experts. Calling all wanna-be sommeliers! Spaces limited. VIP ticket includes admission to Science of Wine event. 

    VIP workshop time is 5:30-6:30pm. VIP ticket cost is $75.

    Event Price includes all drink, food samples, and a commemorative glass. Food Trucks will be parked on grounds inside the campus fencing for you to enjoy during the event. Food truck offerings are an additional purchase.
