    December 2-9: Oceanographers
    Scientists are making new discoveries about our oceans everyday. Come to The Lab and conduct your own ocean experiments. Plus find out what happens in a real ocean lab!

    December 11-16: Holiday Lights
    Come explore the science behind your holiday lights and ornaments! Learn about light reflectance, efficiency of light bulbs, and make your own holiday themed circuits.

    December 16-23: Snow Science
    Let’s explore what makes snowflakes so unique! How do ice crystals compare to the crystals of other minerals? Get an up-close look at different crystals using our microscopes, then learn the chemistry behind real and fake snow!

    December 26-January 6 (rotating schedule)
    Ice Skating Physics
    In this lab, we'll learn about the forces and motion behind ice skating. Build a spinner that turns super fast, then investigate how to slow things down by changing its shape!

    Arctic Architecture
    We will be building in the Lab today! Rise to the challenge and build igloos and gingerbread houses that will stand up to our tests.

    Winter Animals
    Let’s explore what animals do to stay warm in the cold. Look at real animal coats under the microscope and explore the differences between cold blooded and warm blooded animals!

    Holiday Scents
    The smells of the season are all around! In The Lab we are going to look at how these scents can travel through the air and find out how good we are at telling them apart.

    All Aboard the Santa Train!

    The Museum of Life and Science is pleased to host the 41st Annual Santa Train, the Museum's largest annual fundraising event and holiday tradition for the whole family.

    Thousands of twinkling lights will shine throughout the Museum campus, guiding the way to all the fun! Check out the "ice" skating rink for skate-in-your-socks excitement. Sip complimentary hot chocolate, have your face painted, and explore our crafts and activities tent where you can make and take special treats and learn about the science of Santa. Then hop on board the train for a moonlit ride to the North Pole, where Santa and his elves will greet all of our guests. On your way out, be sure to visit our pop-up Museum gift shop to take home something special!

    Your ticket purchase does so much more than help you make memories with your family. Proceeds from this event support the Museum's mission to create a place of lifelong learning, where people from young child to senior citizen embrace science as a way of knowing about themselves, their community, and their world.

    Climb aboard the Ellerbe Creek Railway for a journey to the North Pole. Enjoy a ride through thousands of twinkling lights as you make your way to meet Santa and his elves. Back at the station explore festive activities including:

    • Face painting by Paint Savvy
    • Holiday crafts
    • "Science of Santa" activities including hands-on snow polymer, simple circuits, and more
    • Holiday music and light displays
    • "Skate in your socks" synthetic ice rink
    • Complimentary hot chocolate
    • Pop-up Museum gift shop
    • Sprout Cafe will be open for light snacks and coffee
