Take a Child Outside Week is an opportunity for adults and children to have fun in and explore nature! The Museum is celebrating with a week of events to encourage everyone to engage with the great outdoors. Take a walk in our wetland and discover what’s happening with the animals and plants. Learn about animal conservation at a Keeper Talk. Build a fort in Hideaway Woods. We have 80 acres waiting to connect you with the natural world.

Forest Forts
Sept. 24 – 29, all-day In the Museum park
Let your inner builder run wild in this new Hideaway Woods experience. Use foraged materials to make a den, a nest, or a tiny cabin. What will you create together?

Ask Ranger Greg

Find Ranger Greg and he’ll introduce you to the wild plants and animals of the Museum’s campus. Greg is the park naturalist and author of What kinds of things can you see outside together?

Meet an Animal Keeper

Hike out to the wetlands to learn more about our resident red wolves and lemurs from Museum experts.

Stop by The Garden exhibit and see what’s growing this fall. We change summer crops to foods that thrive in cooler weather. What foods can you find?
