Merck’s generous gesture empowers the future

Today, we are delighted to share the compelling story of Merck’s sponsorship of our Invent the Night Gala at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, North Carolina. This invaluable partnership is a testament to our shared values and commitment to making a positive impact on society.

Merck has been a steadfast supporter of our social events, and the Invent the Night Gala is no exception! The Museum is incredibly grateful for their continuous contributions, which helps ensure our success, and events like the Gala allow Merck employees to connect with each other and our community. This year’s Gala proved to be an elegant and fun social setting for our community to mix and mingle.

The alignment of Merck’s mission with that of the Museum of Life and Science is truly remarkable. Merck’s vision is to use leading-edge science to save and improve lives around the world, a goal that resonates deeply with our mission of creating a place of lifelong learning where people of all ages can embrace science as a way of understanding themselves, their community, and the world. With our organizations located just 10 minutes apart in Durham, North Carolina, this partnership is a natural fit.

The Museum of Life and Science has been an integral part of the Durham and Triangle area for more than 75 years. We take pride in providing a space where the scientists in all of us can thrive. In today’s rapidly evolving world of information and technology, nurturing scientific literacy and curiosity is more vital than ever, and Merck’s support enables us to do just that.

Merck’s involvement with the Museum goes beyond sponsorship; Merck recognized the Museum as a valued Neighbor of Choice. This prestigious title comes with financial grants from Merck’s corporate office, which are dedicated to implementing and sustaining key programs and initiatives at the museum. Additionally, the employees of the Merck Durham manufacturing site wholeheartedly contribute countless hours of community service to enhance the museum’s offerings, making it an even better place for all our visitors. We are also grateful for Merck’s long-standing business membership, which allows their employees to visit with their families and friends, fostering a strong sense of community and enjoyment.

“As a Merck employee and father of two young sons, I am thrilled that the Museum of Life and Science exists within our community,” said Rashid Beyah, a director of operations at the Merck Durham site and Museum of Life and Science board member since 2021. “Attending museums like this as a child helped to spark my interest in science, which ultimately led to me becoming an engineer. STEM is the key to success in our rapidly changing world, and I see the inspiration in my sons’ eyes every time we visit. I truly believe in Merck’s mission as well as the museum’s mission.”

At the Museum of Life and Science, we firmly believe in the power of collective responsibility. Merck’s partnership exemplifies this belief. As part of their sustainability efforts, they actively work to expand access to health, protect the environment, and operate with the highest standards of ethics and values. Together, we strive to make the world a better place through the wonders of science and education.

Merck shared that what they wish the community knew about the Museum is that it is not just for young science enthusiasts. It is a place for learners of all ages! Our exhibits and programming are thoughtfully designed to cater to a broad spectrum of interests and age groups, ensuring that there is something for everyone here.

We are grateful for Merck’s unwavering support and partnership. Together, we are fostering a love for science, encouraging lifelong learning, and making a meaningful impact on our community.
