The Lab

Located on the second floor near Investigate Health, The Lab is a hands-on, facilitated space where visitors can explore our shared world with rigor, compassion, and joy. Guided by educators, guests take part in a rotating series of programming where they can test theories and try out real scientific tools and practices. In The Lab, we believe science is a tool, a community, and a spirit of inquiry that belongs to everyone, everywhere.

The Lab is open from 10 am to noon and 1 pm to 3 pm, Wednesday through Sunday.

Try your hand at science!

On Fridays, drop in to the Lab Lounge! You can add your voice to a community project that will be displayed in the exhibit space. Build, draw, design, measure, and discuss different science topics every week alongside our facilitators and other visitors.

On Saturdays, join us for hands-on science activities with our Museum educators and Catalyst volunteers. On select days, you can even meet scientists and learn about their ongoing research.

Help with real research

On Sundays, you can connect with emerging science with Living Labs, a partnership between the Museum and early childhood psychology/development researchers at local universities. Guests help our partners with their  research (usually in the form of stories and games). This connects our partners with a larger pool of participants, and our guests with real, ongoing scientific research. Living Labs is part of the Museum’s mission to bridge the scientific and broader communities and create relationships and dialogue between them, while also contributing to current research.
