Come do science with us! The Lab is all about getting hands-on to explore our amazing world as a scientific community! Join our educators as we dive into diverse subjects from astronomy to zoology with experiments, crafts, and challenges. We explore different topics every week so everyone can find their STEM-spark! Located on the second floor of the Main Building.
Scientist in Residence
The Lab features local Biotech scientists who share cutting-edge research with Museum visitors through hands-on activities! Bring your questions and curiosity to The Lab on Sundays from 10 am – 12 pm and 1 pm – 3 pm to meet the Scientist in Residence and learn about their work!
The current Scientist in Residence, Katrina Focht, is a lab technician at Duke University researching developmental genetics. She researches fruit flies to learn more about how they grow, specifically how skin “knits” together, a process called epithelial morphogenesis. She enjoys exploring, creating, and learning every day, with the goal of sharing her findings so others can use them in their own exciting experiments!
