DURHAM, NC – The Museum of Life and Science proudly welcomes three members to its Board of Directors, who will bring new leadership, inspiration, and guidance to the organization.

The new board members come to the Museum with a wide range of experiences, perspectives, and professional talents.

The Museum’s new board members include:

Karl Deonanan is CFO for ProPharma and is responsible for leading the company’s finance functional areas, including financial planning, analysis, accounting and treasury operations. Prior to his work at ProPharma, Karl was CFO- Research and Development Solutions at Quintiles; CFO are Synteract and X-Chem Inc. A life-long learner, Karl earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of North Carolina – Wilmington in Wilmington, NC and a Master of Science in Accounting from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.

Charlie Moore is the retired VP of Investments and Wealth Management Advisor at Merrill Lynch. Charlie served on the MLS Board from 2016 – 2022. He also serves on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society board. He is an active member of the Innovator Society.

Christy Shaffer is a partner at Hatteras Venture Partners with 30 years in the life science industry. Following her career as a clinical scientist, international project leader and Associate Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Burroughs Welcome Co., she joined Inspire Pharmaceuticals in 1995 as the first, full time employee. As CEO, Christy grew the company from 20 scientists to nearly 250 employees with revenues of over $100 million. After retiring from Inspire, she joined Hatteras in 2011 and became a partner in 2016. She currently sits on the RTI Board of Governors, CED Board, NCSSM Board, and was a founding Board member for NC Science Fest.
