2024 Pupdate #6
July 22, 2024
Another Red Wolf pup check is done. We start early, around 7 am, before temperatures get miserable. As stated in the last pupdate, catch-ups now start taking longer. With the pups out and about and not easily following our plan, the catch-up took longer than five minutes. Furthermore, us humans have to move around in the wolf habitat more to get the pups where we want them to go. Additionally, each pup gets its own crate at this point since they are MUCH bigger now.
The tasks are the same at this check: confirm microchips, get weights, give a second round of vaccines, the last round of preventative dewormer, and then an overall check. The pups continue to do well!!

We are also finding some old scarring and scabbing. No surprise on these finds, as the pups wrestle with each other. Playing is part of learning for young wolves — and young humans too.

We only have a few more pup checks left. The pups are getting bigger and bigger, so if you haven’t visited yet come soon. An opportunity to see Red Wolf pups — the most endangered wolf on the planet — doesn’t come often.
