Party for the Planet

May 25

10 am – 3 pm

Included with admission

Let’s reflect on the Spring into Action month and celebrate the work that we can all contribute to support our planet’s biodiversity! Learn from experts from the community and Museum staff and synthesize the topics from the whole month of programming.

What to expect from this day of festivity and learning:

  • Learn how to garden with wildlife in mind from the Durham County Master Gardeners and the NC Wildlife Federation
  • Hang out with Wayne Drop as you chat with Durham city and county Water Management officials.
  • Join local author Pierce Freelon for a nature-themed Storytime at 10:30am at our Bird Viewing Area!
  • Explore recycling with hands-on activities, from sorting waste products to mushing paper pulp into new sheets.
  • Talk to our Animal Care Team about some of the SAFE Species that the Museum supports – 11:30 am at Lemurs, and 2 pm at Wolves.
  • And much, much more!

Don’t miss the Parade for the Planet around Hideaway Woods at 12:30 pm, led by Wayne Drop himself! Join early for Coco Fro vegan space ice cream samples (as supplies last)!

Earth Day is April 22, and it’s also the kickoff for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Party for the Planet: Spring into Action, a yearly celebration encouraging folks to create habitats, reduce and clean up litter, and get outdoors!

Here at the Museum of Life and Science, we have a constant commitment to conservation education and action. We’re bringing some of our green events and programs to the forefront during this season to celebrate Party for the Planet alongside the many other participating AZA organizations. Learn more about the Durham Bioblitz with us, and visit each Saturday this May to explore different green topics with hands-on activities!
