Pollinator Day

June 25

Included with admission

Pollinator Day is an annual celebration in support of pollinator health. It is a time to raise awareness for pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect them. Come learn about how pollinators contribute to a healthy ecosystem as you explore the pollinator pathway! We’ll have special exhibitors on the Butterfly House Plaza sharing information and activities to engage learners of all ages about our pollinator pals that keep our ecosystem alive!

Artist spotlight: Naomi Kasumi

June 25

2 sessions, 11 am – 12:30 pm and 1 – 2:30 pm

Join renowned artist Naomi Kasumi for a hands-on artistic exploration of conservation in our Butterfly House Garden. Naomi Kasumi is an incredible artist based out of Seattle, joining us for one day only to share her process with our community. Her work is on display nationally and internationally in galleries and educational institutions nationally and internationally, including the 30×30 art exhibition at the Museum of Life and Science. If you’ve visited 30×30, you’ve likely been awestruck by her felted nests (Urban Colonial Sanctuaries) and intricate bee book (Home Sweet Home).

For this program, Naomi will lead artists young and old through the process of creating an installation art project. We’ll work as a team on a community pompom garden as a collaborative installation art project to learn about and celebrate Pollinator Day. The program is appropriate for young children (with the help of adults), and folks of any age will benefit from flexing their creative muscles.

This program is included with admission to the Museum and requires pre-registration. After a 20-minute presentation from the artist, groups will have 100 minutes for hands-on creation and installation.

Meet at the Butterfly House tent near the Butterfly bench.
