Join us at the Museum of Life and Science for our annual Black Excellence in Science event! We’re celebrating excellent Black scientists and STEM professionals who are making an impact right here in the Triangle area! Get hands-on with science activities, chat with the experts, and connect with community partners! 

This event was made in partnership with Duke’s BOOST program, Purpose Learning Lab, Durham Children’s Initiative, NCCU’s AI Institute and the Durham Colored Library! 

It will be a packed day with incredible opportunities for guests! Here’s what to expect: 

• Hands-on activities and demonstrations with local scientists like Victoria Revelle, MPH, Kendra Settles, Dr. Alex Marshall, our Insectarium manager Leon Bradford, and many more!  
• Pierce Freelon’s Coco-Fro astronaut ice-cream in our gift shop (and a chance to talk to the creator himself) 
• Special Storytimes with community partners throughout the day! 
• A STEAM-infused Lab experience and dance performances with Purpose Learning Lab, followed by a science demo by Ava the STEM Princess 
• Learning through play with DCL’s new Techies4Tomorrow game, and NCCU’s science board game 
• Even more resources and knowledge shared by scientists and community organizations!

This event is on Durham Community Day. On Durham Community Days, Durham County residents get in free with current proof of residence. All adults must have Durham residency to get in free; each adult can bring up to five children. Learn more.
