Bird Bonanza
May 4
10 am – 3 pm
Included with admission
Flap, fly, and flock to the Museum of Life and Science for a Bird Bonanza! See feathered friends up close, learn how to craft the ideal bird habitat in your yard from a Master Gardener, participate in activities around campus, and try to beat Ranger Greg in spotting local birds around campus!
Join us to explore:
- Building bird-friendly habitats with the Durham County Master Gardeners
- Avian Art with Stacy Lewis and explorations on structural color!
- Local birding and conservation experts with New Hope Bird Alliance
- Raptor encounters with Piedmont Wildlife Center (and some special Museum program animals as well!)
- Composting and the small critters that keep ecosystems (and our avian friends) healthy!
- Birding challenges inspired by our park Naturalist, Ranger Greg! See how many birds you can spot on your visit!

Earth Day is April 22, and it’s also the kickoff for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Party for the Planet: Spring into Action, a yearly celebration encouraging folks to create habitats, reduce and clean up litter, and get outdoors!
Here at the Museum of Life and Science, we have a constant commitment to conservation education and action. We’re bringing some of our green events and programs to the forefront during this season to celebrate Party for the Planet alongside the many other participating AZA organizations. Learn more about the Durham Bioblitz with us and visit each Sunday this May to explore different green topics with hands-on activities!
